Leisure pool repairs in a retirement village
JKS London carried out repairs to the leisure pool at Bramshott, a retirement village in Hampshire operated by Inspired Villages Group (IVG).
For residents, the pool and wellbeing facilities are an important part of village life. Repairs needed to be completed safely and efficiently, with residents kept informed and the facility returned to use in good order.
The client
Inspired Villages Group develops and operates retirement villages that combine private homes with communal facilities such as restaurants, lounges and wellbeing suites. Bramshott is one of its villages. IVG is one of our retirement-living clients, and residents’ feedback on our work can be found on our home page.
The brief and challenge
Pools are among the most demanding environments in any building. Water, humidity and pool chemicals affect both building fabric and electrical equipment, and BS 7671 contains specific requirements for swimming pools and other basins in Section 702, reflecting the increased risk of electric shock where people are wet and in contact with water.
In a retirement village, there is a further dimension. Residents use and value the facility, some may have limited mobility, and the work takes place within their community. Any closure needs to be communicated clearly and kept as short as practical.
Our scope
The works comprised repairs to the village’s leisure pool facility, including elements typical of pool repair projects, such as:
- Repairs to the pool area and associated building fabric.
- Electrical works appropriate to a pool environment.
- Checks on associated plant and services.
- Making good and cleaning before handover.
- Testing, certification and handover documentation.
How we delivered
Our work at retirement villages is built around residents. Before starting, we agreed with the village team how and when residents would be told about the works and the pool’s availability.
Resident-sensitive
DBS-checked engineers, clear signage and polite, patient communication with residents who asked about the works.
Safe working
Work areas segregated from communal spaces, with careful control of wet areas, materials and access.
Clean handover
The area cleaned and checked before being handed back to the village team for residents to use.
Electrical work in pool areas is carried out with particular attention to the special requirements of BS 7671 for these locations, and certified on completion.
Outcome
The leisure pool at Bramshott was repaired and handed back to the village for residents to enjoy, with the work delivered in a way that respected the community around it. The project reflects our wider relationship with IVG and our approach to retirement living: technical competence combined with genuine care for the people whose homes we work in.
